I moved from sysadmin to technical pre-sales a few years ago and I’m happy with the move. Though honestly I enjoyed being a sysadmin as well - from my experiences it’s more the work environment and the collegues than the actual work you do that makes or breaks a job.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•My generation was probably the last one to get told "You won't have a calculator in your pocket all the time" by our math teachers.

Pretty solid for various handicaps and such.

1·3 days agoI think creating art is a goal onto itself and it’s something people will do regardless of AI. Like, if I like to write, the act of writing is the important part, more than the end result. Similar for music, movies, etc. For all the ai generated slop that’s out there, there will always be that person who enjoys picking up a paintbrush and going to town.

11·3 days agoYeah, I’ve ran the gamut from Linksys (started with the WRT-54gl, legendary), to TP-Link and Asus, moving to Syonology and finally landing on Ubiquity. I agree - by far the most capable and reliable of all these. Especially since I’ve gotten into setting up a homelab with VLANs and such. The synology has support for this but it’s not the greatest.

At this point I find the errors are pretty rare and much prefer self-checkout, mainly because it’s faster, and as you put it, I often don’t care for peopling.
