Fun fact: most EVs are using Wwise, a sound engine developed for video games and being used by almost a third of the games industry. Someone someday just thought “hey we can design awesome fake car sounds for racing games with this baby, why don’t we just plug it into cars instead?” then it took off.
On a second note, EV sounds totally hackable over software but no one is paying much attention yet. OTA updates also possible.
Word is they’re going to put a straight piped motorcycle engine on there so EVERYONE knows the car is driving around
Finally, pavement pounders for my EV!
Can they recall the electric Humvee? With its ridiculous weight and very fast acceleration, that thing is a menace to anyone or anything unfortunate enough to be in collision with one.
I was building an automation line that was going to be used to manufacture the battery tray for Hummers. When I found out in 2020 that my workplace was considered essential service during the covid lockdowns, I pretty much lost my mind. Stupidest fucking thing I ever heard.
There’s nothing essential about an electric Hummer.
I don’t work there anymore.
There’s not even anything essential about auto manufacturing in general. Even if it was an American Kei car line making inexpensive vehicles more generally useful daily than nearly anything currently available in the US.
It was essential that stock line go up
Must explain why the two GM EVs I have were absurdly loud to the point where there are guides online to suppress them. Magnitudes louder than a diesel 350 and would be the same volume even when stopped at a light. It was all you could hear.
I would take that mess back to the dealer, no?
It took about 10 minutes to disable, all good.
In a previous vehicle I had all you had to do was pull a fuse out.
Oh I see, I thought there was something wrong with it.
They’re working as designed. The USA has a very high minimum noise level for EVs in its safety standards. The idea is that pedestrians can hear them coming like ICE vehicles, but they end up being louder than ICE vehicles at low speeds.
Geez. All you hear from EVs where I live is the sound of the tires against the ground. Of course very old EVs will sound like a small choir of baby angels, but more recent ones are just silent to me.
I just had a look at the new Volvo EX60 which seems exceptionally quiet. Looking forward to switching out my EX40 for that one when my lease is up.
I believe my car makes some artificial sound at low speeds, but it’s proportional to the speed. It does have reversing bongs which is a bit annoying.
God I know what utter pieces of shit normal Chevys are. I can’t imagine how bad electric Chevys must be.
Gross. I have two bow ties. A Camaro that will eat you alive. And my daily is a Bolt EUV. Solid car. They aren’t crap. You just have bad judgement.
My Chevy volt has been holding up pretty well. The whole line is dead though because I can’t have nice things
And GM was never one to understand electricity. They make the worst wiring harnesses, do stupid shit like mounting computer modules next to the HVAC core where large heat/cold changes happen leading to corrosion. They don’t use the right metals in even bulbs/sockets, so it looks like you have a burned out tail light and, lo and behold, it’s just galvanic corrosion.
It is amazing they managed to get an EV to leave the lab, let alone assembly line.
