Well, technically it can, in that some piracy installs things that make them money, and that can go for their private gain or their pet projects. Kinda like how google offers you free products that make money for them.
the ironic part of this is in some cases it can. Pirate broadcasts and media boxes are becoming increasingly common to have subscription models for way cheaper than you would having the traditional streaming subs.

That’s been the talk track since back on VHS. Apparently copying that tape from Block Buster went straight into buying drugs and weapons.
