Example, putting ketchup on a perfectly cooked ribeye steak at a nice restaurant.

Raw chicken is a delicacy in Japan

I’ve yet to have the balls/reckless-abandon-for-my-bowels to try it

I’d hardly call it a delicacy. I’ve had it a couple of times and hate the texture.

The term delicacy typically is to do with things like the rarity/speciality of the food and care/attention during preparation. It doesn’t necessarily mean tastes amazing or anything like that

I’d guess a lot of people would feel similarly about many foods considered delicacies.

I get that. I’ve seen it at tons of places that wouldn’t lead me to believe it has some special status. I’ve also never heard a japanese say it is a delicacy either.

I would trust the quality of Japanese chickens infinitely more than others’. They seem to take their food products pretty dang seriously, like their ridiculously perfect fruits.

It’s still not fine lol. It carried an insane salmonella risk even in Japan. It’s just one of those traditional dishes that get overlooked on safety in favor of tradition. Japan’s health department strongly discourages it because of the extreme risk of salmonella.
