My reason is that Reddit has opened a representative office in Turkey. This means the government can hand over IP addresses whenever it wants. In short, I came to Lemmy because freedom is gone. Fuck Reddit.
most of us were banned during last year waves of purges. apparently they started using AI to start shadowbanning people, along with bots. then i remember lemmy from somewhere and i just started using site, after milling on other forums , which also claimed they were shadowbanned recently too. wish lemmy was more stable with some of its instances that got shutdown.
also appealing seems to be futile for 99% of shadowbanned people than before, they ignore most of it. having multiple accounts actually puts you at risk for being banned more easily.
I already less and less frequently used Reddit, then the APIpocalypse pointed me to alternatives. If only the “boycott” wasn’t a temporary thing to maybe make spez reconsider…
Banned for “hate speech” for telling an American propagandist to get his American propaganda out of my country. Apparently Reddit is helping with the effort to destabilize and invade Canada.
The APIcalypse for me.
Slightly concerned by how many people here managed to get banned from the entire site.
I purposely got banned so I couldn’t as easily sign back up.
I got shadowbanned! And I don’t even know what I did.
99.9% of my posting was in two places: technical testing in localllama and fandom geeking in thelastairbender, in spite of brain drain in both subs. I never even raised my voice in a post.
I did post a Lemmy link, but that was well after my first shadowban I believe.
Anyway, it feels like tons of technical and lore intelligence drained from these subs, so I feel like I’m not the only one who got shut out.
Yeah, FWIW I recognise some of these users, and they’ve been fine. And Reddit hasn’t looked better when I’ve incidentally browsed through.
API drama caused Boost to relaunch as a Lemmy client
Yeah the switch was a slow one for me. There was a long period where I was using both but it slowly shifted from using reddit more to using Lemmy more and a big reason was the usability of the ui. They really wanted to push me onto the app but it was so sluggish and every bug I reported about the web ui was met with “but did you try our app?” and like yeah I did and it was shit! It was bloated down with so many weird internal video features I didn’t even use (and probably tracking) that it was barely usable! Meanwhile boost just gets it done, consistently, and with like 0 bugs.
App-ocolypse where they shut down 3rd party apps (made API prices prohibitively expensive and removed access to nsfw stuff like Ukraine war reporting) and a bunch of users and moderators left. I stayed for a few months to observe how the subreddits and tone changed towards a younger, more right leaning liberal politics with way more bots and AI dross while using mastodon before checking out Lemmy.
Reddit used to be cool, but it has since been stripped of what made it special to me.
Left during the API bullshit. R.I.P. RIF:/
Got banned for anti-Zionism.
The right wing sycophants running the and moderating the site.
It’s over run with right wing trolls and disinformation, but you get banned for calling it out
Being banned.
Luigi disrespect
Reddit banned everyone.
Bot banning.
Sorry, I don’t care to use a platform that auto-bans me for saying a few key words that in no way amount to breaking any site rules.
Sites that auto-ban you for words that aren’t slurs simply aren’t worth anyone’s time.
reddit isn’t fun anymore. it’s way too serious and full of weirdos who take everything super seriously.
lemmy isn’t as bad, but it’s getting there. more and more weridos showing up here who want to harass you and ban you for not being like them.
i was a reddit user since 2010, it was a great site until the 2016 election when it started rapidly going downhill and then massively accelerated after 2020 and now with the AI crap, they ban you for stupid reasons. I got banned in '22 for talking about my cat killing rabbits, because I was promoting violence, apparently. they unbanned me for the IPO, of course.
It’s a stupid place full of stupid people. lemmy has smarter people, but honestly that is really starting to deteriorate as more and more people come and they are dumb. way too many brainwashed people on here who think it’s OK to scream at and threaten other users for differences of opinion. i will never understand people like that.
