Why the fuck was a teacher’s union on a website run by a neo-Nazi and populated by neo-Nazis?

As horrible as csam is, and let me be clear that I do not want to minimize it, but that was their [final straw/last drop/final grain of rice] to quit xitter?

Twitter has become a de facto public platform for disseminating information. To very roughly paraphrase Cory Doctorow, everyone wants to leave, but nobody can agree on where to leave to. It’s a mutual hostage situation for all parties involved.

On one hand there is a final straw for anyone. On the other hand WTF why didn‘t everyone turn their back on that inhumane swamp years ago? It‘s beyond me. It was absolutely awful and a net minus for society the day the orange man became the most popular user on it 10 years ago.

There’s a lot of FUDposting (like actual, not just critique) of alternative platforms on Xitter, all based on lies.

Delete Twitter(and Meta, Amazon, Microsoft, Apple, TikTok, etc)

If an algorithm serves it then it is pouring poison into society through your eyes, stop letting them.

In the literal sense that is true, but trivially so.

Every computer program and application is a collection of algorithms under the computer science definition of algorithm. In the context of Meta, Amazon, Microsoft, Apple, TikTok when I said algorithm I mean a recommendation algorithm and, more specifically, recommendation algorithms that are intended to recommend you news or information.

If Mark Zuckerberg wants you to see a specific kind of content he can unilaterally make that happen across the planet by adjusting the parameters of the various recommendation algorithms that he controls.

That is not possible on Lemmy, as it does not use a recommendation algorithm controlled by a single individual. At best someone could attempt vote manipulation using a large number of bot accounts, but that would be detected if it is used at scale.

If you’re reading Meta, your worldview is largely controlled by one person. You may think that you’re smart enough to avoid misinformation or that your own research counters the misinformation that you see every day, but you are being psychologically primed to create mental associations which happens below the level of consciousness and is not a process that you can control. The very fact that you think that you’re immune and that your reasoning can protect you is weaponized against you.

Delete them, there is absolutely nothing on those platforms that is worth the damage that they’re inflicting on democracy around the world. These are the handmaidens of fascisim, the 21st century propaganda machines that are pumping custom designed poison into your mind.

        Delete them

Algorithms based on up/downvotes, comments, and time that are open source and visible are not the same as closed source algorithms attempting to increase engagement for shareholder profit, and you know it. Trying to conflate the two is disingenuous.

That depends on your sorting preference. Several sorting options are very straightforward like top, new, etc.

It can. Maybe yours does. Maybe mine did by default. Mine ignores vote weights and sorts both the home feed (either Subscribed or All) and the comment feed by newest first.

I can vote, I see the arrows, but I don’t see vote weight and vote weight has no affect on how I read Lemmy.

In an interview with Reuters, AFT President Randi Weingarten said that the site had already been degraded by extremists and trolls since Elon Musk’s 2022 takeover, before which the platform was known as Twitter. But the recent proliferation of nonconsensual images of women and children in bikinis or underwear generated by X’s artificial intelligence chatbot, Grok, had made the site unusable, she said.

And here’s your “you helped enable this; don’t expect a pat on the back” trophy.

So what I can get from this is that the current American admin is distancing itself from X, maybe Musk altogether? Or perhaps this is just a first step before creating a more localized version mostly for American audiences, or expanding Truth Social? Both? More the latter than a Musk breakup, I think. We shall see.

The current American admin isn’t doing jack shit about X, despite this being obviously criminal. In fact, the US military just gave Musk a contract to license Grok, even though Grok describes itself as ‘Mecha-Hitler’.

Why is this news? This should be the default - everyone leaves platform hosting CSAM and pervy deep fakes.
