Yes, we want to know how the sausage is made, just like with all FOSS.

what does the community actually expect from devs

It really isn’t so long ago when making an app required various stages of completion and testing, usually including other people. I expect from devs that they follow that well-established road and stop with the silly “who has the time” argument I’m hearing so soften lately. Sorry, you didn’t actually say that.

Not sure why we should be interested in the Polish though. Are you from there?

Then you misunderstood the question. Re-read the title?

For ethics, there’s two issues.

No, there’s seven main issues.

Thanks a lot.

I did not know it was possible to influence AI software/models and nudge them in a certain direction.

These AI companies have even more power than I thought for a long time.

Where is the IP theft if money isn’t changing hands?

Money not changing hands is pretty much the definition of theft.

Thanks, that was properly eli5’d!

Wow. as if the original models weren’t rickety enough.

careful, you might rage-quit soon

Thanks. What are quantized models?

OK but what does open-weight model mean?

Just as I suspected…

Thanks for taking the time.

there are very few that can be considered ethical - Olmo, Apertus, Starcoder

This is software meant to be run always and completely locally?

Sorry to whine, but so far nobody has eli5’d what “open-weighted” means, or “model” at that… please?

distilled from Western frontier models.

What does this mean please (remember the title of the post!) and how do you know?

I think no matter how you cut it, the fediverse is not up there (yet) so I’m right even without having an answer 🤷

And then they say liberals/dems/leftists are the ones who want to make Orwell’s 1984 reality.

How would you?

It seems to me that what’s happened in recent years is individual companies that offer some sort of information service have been centralizing and gatekeeping

I thought that’s what you meant but your statement that the fediverse “trying to layer some order over a decentralized physical infrastructure” is totally removed from that.

BTW I’m not cynical about AI, I’m against it. There’s a difference.
Were Luddites “cynical” about mechanical weaving? I don’t think so, but the people who called them Luddites in the first place certainly were.

fediverse is it’s trying to layer some order over a decentralized physical infrastructure.

I’m not sure I follow you. The Fediverse is about social networking which is not all, not even most of the internet.

And the internet itself is a layer of order over its decentralised physical infrastructure.

You really really hate the new 3310. To the point that you’re inventing adversaries where there are none.

TBH I forgot that I had this discussion elsewhere and I’m about 99% sure that these phones simply become unusable when 2G is shut down, which is why some countries shut down 3G but not 2G. But I don’t remember or understand the technical stuff behind it.

There’s also somehing about these specs that we just call 2G or 3G etc., in reality it’s much more complex.
