Technology@lemmy.world•Streamer claims Microsoft “deleted” his account because it was hackedEnglish
1·23 hours agoI believe that was the advice in the early SSD days, and likely still applies for high write commercial environments.
However, modem SSDs are fine when used in a typical home lab set up.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but that’s my understanding.

Technology@lemmy.world•Streamer claims Microsoft “deleted” his account because it was hackedEnglish
10·2 days agoShame on Microsoft for being a shit company.
However, I don’t recommend backing up to OneDrive, but if you must, you should encrypt on your local machine first. Also, keep a physical backup. Current situation not withstanding, external SSDs are reasonably cheap.

93·3 days agoThere is an Android app that looks for the Bluetooth signatures of these glasses and alerts if they are nearby. Hopefully something exists on iOS devices as well.
Edit: The app is called Nearby Glasses and it is available on iOS and Android.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Keep Android Open (Stop Google from limiting APK file usage)English
3·5 days agoGoogle reCaptcha enters the chat.
This whole APK dicussion is important, but Google is taking steps to lock down the bloody internet if you aren’t on a verified iOS or Android device. This will be far reaching going way beyond the APK changes.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Keep Android Open (Stop Google from limiting APK file usage)English
6·5 days agoI feel like that won’t be enough. Google is working on locking down the entire internet unless you can pass their reCaptcha with a verified device. See this article related to GrapheneOS and their reCaptcha concerns.
Sites need to stop using reCaptcha or we are all doomed anyway.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Keep Android Open (Stop Google from limiting APK file usage)English
3·5 days agoSo you can use the website in your browser but still have the have their app installed for 2fa? That’s peak bullshit there.
Google reCaptcha is going to have a similar requirement for accesing half the bloody internet once that goes through. In summary, I think we are fucked.

Welp, I guess it’s off to BSD I go.
J/k. This seems like a pragmatic approach from Linus.
