I don’t use pencils to draft my work (penciling). I do this intentionally b/c I am a trained printmaker & back in the day (think sixteenth century) when making intaglio prints (that means on copper plates), there was no way to erase so they etched balls-to -the-wall style, mistakes & all.

I spent a long time learning to create line art w/o using pencil b/c I wanted to create that same weird, not-quite-right look that intaglio prints have.

I’m not sure why I’m bothering explaining myself b/c I am not in the habit of doing so but, goddamn, get a fucking hobby then maybe you won’t feel so threatened by AI.

Yeah I do. This is a small, volunteer, open source developer creating something for our benefit & has found a way to ease their workload but the purity brigade demands they type everything out by hand from scratch b/c they have big feels & are reflexively reactionary about AI. Seems shitty to me.

Two things, the experiment you are referring to was specifically designed to deceive whereas AI vulnerabilities would just be simple bugs.

Secondly, the security requirements of the Linux Kernel are way more important/stringent than Lutris, which has no special access & is often even further sandboxed if installed via Flatpak.

I just don’t see this as an issue until it proves to be one. People are always welcome to fork a “pure” version.

You are assuming the author is being unsafe & not auditing code for very basic security issues.

Let me present this angle, small teams of volunteer open source developers finally have a way to help ease the amount of code they produce, but you want them to continue doing all the work manually because AI hurts your feefees.

Further, you are openly declaring you don’t trust the devs to audit their own code.

If you can find a security vulnerability in the code (it is open source after all) I’ll cede, but otherwise, I think it is a good thing responsible AI use can help shoulder the work these folks do for our benefit.

You’re not wrong. That said my broke ass can’t afford cutting edge hardware so most of the time it doesn’t matter.

When it does, I can usually compensate with either a NixOs profile install, a container of some sort (or Flatpak), or just building the emefferr from source.

As a Debian slut this level of sweating over updates is wild to me.
