Are we going backwards? History is repeating, isn’t it or did I take the wrong pill.
Because I could do that with the Anarchist Cookbook over 2 decades ago as well.

Also for when you, for whatever reason, run out of physical memory.
Who here worries torturing their SSDs? Those things will last lifetimes compared to HDD’s of the past (or present).
Still dislike Microsoft for cheaping out on the later generations Lumia. Cheaper displays so the 950 didnt support Glance. Wth?
I still miss my 920 tho. The Lumia 920 is only recently dethroned as my favorite (smart)phone of all time.
Microsoft messed up badly in Europe by completely and utterly ignoring the continent. Nokia managed to gain a larger marketshare than Apple in both Italy and France at the time. With meaningful marketshares in the rest of Europe.
Nokia was doing alright in several Asian countries Microsoft ignored as well.
After the take over, Microsoft kept all their resources forced on the US market, failed and in turn lost the European and Asian markets.
GG.

How are they casually finding these home assistant servers? I sure hope people dont have port 8123 exposed publicly like that? Are you all broadcasting it in to the ether?

It’s been that case since forever now. Nothing has really changed and the same rules still apply.
I still remember ‘hacking’ my ISP ADSL router 2+ decades ago and listening to the WAN interface. Hundreds of thousands of attempts per day in the early 2000s. Mostly US, Russia and China.
My personal #1 threat on the internet for the past 20 years has been DDOS and thanks to billions of IOT devices and privacy invading ‘smart’ appliances everywhere… The botnets have never been this plenty. DDOS as a Service for mere cents a day.
LLM’s joined the fray in recent years but it still can’t do anything it hasn’t learned from us humans.

I would wish the EU would be more strict in its laws. Cookiebanners are NOT required when you only use functional cookies that the website technically needs to work. I never had to show the banner for my websites, because I simply don’t include 3rd party bullshit, no ads, no tracking.
Same with the new age rating rules, websites and communities that aim at CHILDREN are required to not be invasive when checking for age (ID checks are last fucking resorts!). If your website or community is obviously 18+, like porn, gore and such websites. There is no requirement for an age check!
Fuck the companies abusing our EU systems and that put the EU in a bad spotlight because of RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE social media ragebait.
Why the fuck is it socially acceptable for billion dollar (foreign!) tech companies to manipulate our children?
Why did we normalize getting our asses spied on? And why are we accepting the excuse of these tech companies to scan our ID’s and passports?
The GDPR does not allow scanning of identity cards/passports except for a very limited section. Like: banks, your employer, your health insurance and your government. These tech companies are not on the GDPR VIP list.

i mean, yeah they were memes and used as memes.
You’d just be chilling on IRC or the alt-binaries somewhere for your daily dose of Warez, random link appears, you click it. BWAM Goatse in your face. And people where laughing.
These early rotten.com-like memes are basically the source for the Rickroll, the not being able to trust links thankfully turned in to a fun song.

I still use icanhazip.com to find my wan ip.

These fine owls are still living rent free in my head.
But the worst are probably Goatse, 2girls1cup, 1guy1jar, all the nazi ascii stuff. Modern day memers have it easy.

I am pretty certain that Steam killswitch is used by crackers. As the cracked dll works for multiple games(or all? I hardly pirate games) and it seems to’ve been the same crack that patches out steam drm for 2 decades now.
Valve’s refusal to fix it, earned them some kudos. Giving trust that my steam games continue working even if steam is gone.

I bought Devil May Cry, constantly wondered why i was getting so much frame drops and little freezes.
Eventually pirated DmC for a proper experience until they removed denuvo.
Last time i bought a game containing denuvo and the last devil may cry i bought, the series is dead to me now. What idiots keep thinking up these anti-piracy methods that bother their own customers and actively promotes piracy by offering a better quality service.

The whole internet is slowly getting ruined by AI optimization.

It’s like the stick in the front wheel meme. Ubisoft is crashing and burning, wtf decision is this?
The ‘safeguards’ of AI are funny, as they are manually put in by humans on certain phrases and token triggers. By rephrasing it you trigger a whole new token chain that bypasses the known ones.
Or, you know, get any of the hundreds of models you can self host that don’t have any of the safeguards in place or can be broken.
In the end it matters very little. It actually kinda sounds like the the same kind of fear mongering when Google became useful in the 2000s.
Now everyone can find the Anarchist Cookbook! Why won’t anybody think of the children! Terrorism! Rabble, rabble rabble.
