The issue is the phone is (almost always) always on and you cannot inspect things like you could with a PC. You can’t list processes and read through them, there’s no syslog or kernel log on most phones that you’re allowed to view, it’s a much bigger pain to reinstall than a PC is, there are a lot of things that make it an easier target. I would have a much much easier time figuring out my PC is compromised than figuring out my phone is compromised

I understand the purpose of it, but if you are using your phone in a smart manner (you shouldn’t use a cell phone for genuinely urgently serious things just for bare minimum) then it’s not a huge deal. The biggest thing it will help with is things in the realm of Pegasus spyware that will use memory corruption bugs that gain arbitrary system access. If you do not use the phone for things you should already (even with GOS) NOT be using a cell phone for, you will be fine.
Tor is a military project so it’s like saying water is wet. There are lots of other options.
Most people that think that way or any similar way are responding to something real, but their response goes in the wrong direction. That is why open discourse and being open and honest with people is the most important path to take. People are generally reasonable if you approach with sincerity of heart. The idea that you’ll save the world with sudden unprokoved violence and anger is more misguided than the person who simply holds misguided beliefs. Part of the journey of personal growth is figuring that out.
