mlmym for lemmy is quite literally old reddit. i’d like to try mbin/piefed but this frontend is too good for me.

last commit 3yrs ago… seems unmaintained

discord screen shares are very low latency and well integrated… is it possible to do something similar with obs? genuinely asking.

stoat aims for that but isn’t stable. matrix needs jitsi for screen sharing and streaming, that’s not like the smooth experience with discord. also i’m unsure about persistent chat in the long term, i’ve used matrix for a while and the rooms tend to not last for long amd get ‘upgraded’ or something (had to click on some button that said something around ‘this chatroom has moved’… and couldn’t search from the old chatlog properly)

it seems like they’re using matrix under the hood

Looked around for a while now, these are the alternatives I found.

do you know if stoat’s ios client good enough? last i tried the android one was also very basic.

isn’t it just a webapp? should be trivial to package as a ‘standalone program’

they don’t have screen sharing :/

Riot renamed to Element.io, Revolt renamed to Stoat.chat

personally i’d also backup the messages before deleting, this works well https://github.com/Tyrrrz/DiscordChatExporter

seems like they had a decent name ‘revolt’ but got some cease and desist and didn’t resist and decided to switch.

has anyone tried their iOS client? from their description it seems like it’s less mature than the android version, kinda concerning as my friend group has some iphone users.

could you recommend a good xmpp setup? i heard good things about snikket, maybe something else too?

may i ask which homeserver and client you use? it seems like synapse and element is not the best choice especially for small number of people.
if this is for privacy i’d just use the cheapest/fastest option that supports rclone and use its encrypted upload feature.
i would just carry a mostly empty (wiped) laptop and a recent-ish iphone. i do hate iphones but they’re reasonably secure, and many chinese apps are notorious for crazy background usage and shits. those apps’ ios versions tend to be much better/less intrusive. you’ll probably have to use a few to find places or make payments…

It’s not. They just copied (literally) a few userspace tools from BSD back in the days, and rebased them to FreeBSD some time later.
i used an instagram scraper tool with an account, at some point they suspended the account and required my ID. I obviously refused and just let it rot, at some point they deleted my account.
