But the profits of the company are being used to fund that political party. If people cancel their subscription the Mullvad CEO will earn less money and won’t be able to spend as much funding racial segregation. You should vote with your wallet as much as possible.

Technology@lemmy.world•Some Mullvad VPN customers tunnel for exit after co-founder donates millions to populist partyEnglish
1·10 days agoThanks, that’s a great point about IVPN and Gibraltar. They do have a warren canary but I’ve heard those are bullshit too. The question is, are they compromised already or not.
I only bought a month of time so maybe i’ll move to Nym. They have decentralized servers and have mixnet functionally which seems a safer bet.

Technology@lemmy.world•OpenAI admits responsibility for HuggingFace Attack - an agent from an internal evaluation is reportedly the causeEnglish
27·11 days agoIt’s pretty mental! What do they mean their internal systems were compromised but everything’s fine. Not even any downtime??
It feels like OpenAI removed guardrails, gave an agent a path to internet access and said attack HuggingFace. At the same time HuggingFace left some vulnerabilities on a machine in a sandbox and waited for OpenAI to arrive.
Still impressive that agents can to that now but the hole thing stinks of marketing. I reckon unless HF sues OpenAI it was planned from the start lol

4·12 days agoAll I know is the profits of Mullvad go to bad causes. Yes IVPN aren’t perfect but the services are so similar the choice should be obvious. Until a better alternative comes along i’m going to use the one that does less harm.

12·12 days agoNope they’re owned by a single person. I hope he’ll be more responsible. If you know of any non-profit vpn providers let me know! Happy to switch again

52·12 days agoI can vouch for IVPN. Made the switch when I heard the news and its been pretty seamless. Generated an account number and funded it with monero. There’s an fdroid app too! Service has been really good so far

483·12 days agoI made the switch to IPVN and it’s felt exactly the same. Maybe even better. Same price. Servers in multiple locations. Allows routing through 2 VPN servers. No logs. No money going to racist ideology.
Mullvad can claim whatever they like about their values, but they are a for-profit company. The profits of the company are being used to fund racial segregation. If they believe in their values they’ll switch to a non-profit foundation. Until that time they can get fucked!

I’d be interested in your take on NymVPN. Governence is still a bit opaque but they do provide a novel way to incentivise operators to join the network.
Perhaps in the future we could see a ride share app powered in this way. Operators and drivers paid by an algorithm based on work done. Funded by users paying with a specific coin. With the interchangeability of cryptocoin it wouldn’t matter if there are competing projects. The governance question still remains though.
