05·2 days agoSo there’s rarely an “We already live paycheck to paycheck” situation and its more often than not accidental pregnancies? I mean come on… Who the heck cannot afford condoms or birthcontrol? If you can’t then you probably shouldn’t be having sex in the first place, to be honest. Again, not like anybody’s forcing you (excluding rape)

13·2 days agoMentioned it in other replies, there are cases where adult people clearly do understand the consequences while not being forced into it by any 3rdparty. I exclude the cases where they are raped or uneducated

15·2 days agoWell like I said here, we don’t take those cases into account. What drives people who do understand the consequences to do it and then complain?

24·2 days agoVelma avoids answering the question of whether or not she believes in personal responsibility. Because if she does the she would have to apply this principle to anything, including a personal deaicion to raise a kid (by a fullgrown, mentally sane adult, who was not forced into it by any other party such as a rapist). If she is not applying it in this case then she would be a hypocrite.

16·2 days agoThat’s the interresting part, you can’t 😀 and so its even more reason not to condemn yourself and a kid to bearing the load of being on a punishing side of the Matthew Effect. Just saying… IF I were them as they say or whatever

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you blame parents who can not afford children for making them or do you sympathize with them?English
15·2 days agoYeah, like I said, excluding rape and lack of education its your choice to make a baby so if you believe in personal responsibility then you should (I think) apply this same princible to that choice and its consequences, but for some reason people treat it like its exwmpt from that rule

27·2 days agoWhat I am trying to say here is that when it comes to desicion to buy a phone you are saying that the person is responsible for their actions and shouldn’t have bought a phone, but when it comes to making a baby they suddenly aren’t? How doss that make sense? Genuinely asking. Do you also, like many here, believe that having children should be a human right?

27·2 days agoYeah, the phone will cost you less
I am not going to argue over the definition of the word “luxury” but on an individual level (not populational!!!) how does it make sense to still choose to have a child (excluding accidents, rape and lack of education!!!) in THIS frigging economy lmao.
