I think it’s a disease a bit like addiction. Do heroin once and you will likely feel pretty good. Do molly a couple times a year and it will probably be enjoyable. Do either all day every day and you will be fucking miserable, but still paranoid about losing your supply. Money is pretty similar. Whether it’s your intent or not, the narrative you’re spreading is used to dissuade folks from demanding better than the choice between a shit taco and a turd sandwhich. It affirms a shitty status quo and demands political patience in the face of a fucked up world… to the benefit of fascists and their corporate cronies.

There are ways to make that irrelevant. I use a cheap vps and just have it funnel raw traffic for the ports I need to my home server via wireguard. All my SSL certs live on my machine and the VPS can’t see any of the traffic contents. I suppose they could redirect traffic elsewhere or start serving whatever on that domain, but I would know immediately and there are some limits to my paranoia.

Not really. They’re still harvesting/monitoring everyone’s chats and are moving forward with age verification, to include behavior-based age verification. They’re just hiring a different scummy vendor to handle the age checks.

Currently hosting a couple of zulip instances for communities that had been on discord. I really like the way it handles topics/threading and they make hosting a breeze. I reported in an upgrade recently and it was < 30 minutes between me reporting it and getting code to solve my issue pushed to the repos. Wild.

10/10 recommend if voice/video are not a focus.
