My limited forays into PeerTube have had a lot of really oddball, limited-appeal stuff, none of which is stuff that I’m really into. If there’s stuff out there that I’m really into, I haven’t had much luck finding it yet.
That being said, maybe the Threadiverse could help surface that content if it’s out there, if we had an “interesting stuff I found on there” community, sort of like !wikipedia@lemmy.world does for Wikipedia.

EDIT: I have, on occasion, considered doing something like a sweep of popular public domain or Creative Commons content on YouTube and uploading it. Does mean that it would be re-encoded, though, which isn’t ideal.
The issue with things like Peertube is they are driven by ideology first, and content second.
So to enjoy the experience or the content, you have to already agree to the ideology. Sort of like NewsMaxx and all that stuff.
what people here forget, is a most of the big content platforms grew because they were non-ideaological and had lots of general interest content, you know, like videos of cute animals and sports clips.
An individual instance may be driven by some ideology… but as a decentralized collective of instances, there isn’t one governing ideology. It’d be super funny to have a pro-capitalism one… and it’s anyone’s right to create it or contribute to it if they want to.
Surely one of these instances allows videos of cats.
So far the only consistent searching I’ve been able to do is with sepiasearch. I’m struggling to adjust my expectations on what kind of stuff I’ll even find in the peertubeverse so I’m also interested in any genres people recommend for it
Video hosting and distributing is very expensive. YouTube operated at a major loss for a while, and maybe still does, I’m not entirely sure. Lemmy is much cheaper as a text and occasional image platform.
I considered doing streaming for a while. I looked into Peertube and the Twitch fedi thing I forget the name of, wondered why there was only one Russian guy streaming, balked at the hosting fees, and gave up.
