I do it all the time. Before smart phones were a thing I had a water proof shower radio. Now I use the phone for the same thing. Mostly listening to news or a podcast or something. Sometime it’s a Nebula video, but in the shower I’d just be listening to it like a podcast anyway. Before phones were waterproof I used to use a waterproof Bluetooth speaker.
I’ve never had steam cause a problem, but then again my showers aren’t long, aren’t very hot and my phone is kept pretty high up and out of the way.
“Everyone” does not use their phone while eating or pooping. I make an effort to engage with mine as little as possible, in a perfect world checking it when I wake up when I get home and before bed. For me the phone is a weird mix of useful tool and addictive drug, almost impossible to drop entirely but very much worth limiting access to. Constant stimulation is certainly a choice you can make, but probably not a healthy one. I view what you’re doing the same way you might view someone saying they always drink a beer in the shower.

Just… why? Why risk it? Your average smart phone is anywhere from $500 to over $1000, so what’s so important that you’re deliberately exposing it to water and the risk of dropping it (especially if you’re using shampoo, conditioner, soap or any other bathroom product designed to act as a cleaning agent)? Surely whatever it is can wait however long it is you’re showering for?
Personally, I wouldn’t want a friend/relative/whatever phoning me or answering the phone if they were in the shower or using the bathroom.
I can understand one of the other comments about using it to listen to podcasts/music/videos/etc., and at least in that case the phone is presumably far enough away (and not being regularly accessed) that it’s at lower risk. Fair enough – I sometimes do that whilst washing dishes. Still, I think I’d struggle trying to listen to something whilst actively showering – too much other noise.
I got a couple Amazon Echo Show 8s and hacked them with Lineage. It doesnt sound great but it at least has more body than my cell phone, so I can actually hear it. And I dont have to mess around with Bluetooth. And there’s no battery.
I’ll keep an eye out for stuff like that at tag sales. I have a media server that is unused for music. I mean, I could use my phone, but i hate messing around with bluetooth.

Over daily showers all that time I have yet to drop or have one fail. I have also used them in the rain on occasion. If something happens I will consider a 1 in 3,000 occurence not bad.

In case you don’t actually know anybody under the age of about 35, the next time you are riding a bus or are a passenger in a car, start watching other drivers and see how many of them literally cannot put their phones down. Like even if they aren’t actually looking at them while they drive, which is like a solid 30% of all drivers, another significant chunk is holding the phone even when not in use. The shower is not even a high bar at this point.
We have fines and demerit points where I live, but they don’t seem to be enforced often. Our cops are too busy…uh, I don’t actually even know, but we sure pay them a lot (as an organization). Traffic enforcement seems to have gone down quite significantly in the past few years.

Of all addictions to have it could be worse. But it’s actually the opposite. I love long warm showers - something about the water hitting my back whilst sitting on a stool that feels very relaxing. I have video essays going whilst I do that.

You can get a waterproof Bluetooth speaker pretty cheap. Better sound and zero risk of anything happening to the phone. I love mine.

Put a bluetooth speaker in the shower instead of your phone; it’s not like you can work the screen with wet hands anyway.
SInce my speaker stopped working, I’ve taken to putting the phone in a plastic baggie hanging from the curtain rod between the curtains.
How dense is your shower curtain than you can’t leave it outside the shower and still hear it??
The speaker on my Pixel 7 is plenty loud, but so is the water in the shower.
I also listen to podcasts, which are usually mixed quieter than music, and require more volume to pick up quieter consonants.
Get a little Bluetooth speaker. I keep my phone next to the speaker outside the shower, and I hear it fine.
