If I can securely hold it and dip at least half of it without getting it on my fingers, then it’s a chip.

It’s a little more stringent than some of the other answers, but anything smaller I think of as a crumb. Per other answers here, I could pinch the end of a piece between my fingernails to hold it (insecurely) and dip a tiny little spot and call that a chip.

If you can still dip it without getting dip on your fingers, it’s a chip.

If I can pick it up, it’s a chip. If I have to pour it out, it’s a crumb.

Does licking your finger and doing it one finger count? Or does it have to be grasped by two fingers?

If you have to think about that question, it’s a crumb.

But you’re picking it up, so your take makes no sense.

I think this person just described the answer that most makes sense, actually. 😂

yup, I’d go further and say that if it’s the same size as your thumbnail, it’s still a chip. Any smaller and it becomes crumb. Big crumb, but crumb.

If you end up with a small amount of chips and dip left, just dump the small pieces into the dip and eat it with a spoon like cereal.

Chips, you pick them up with two fingers while crumbs can be picked with a single finger.

If you can’t pick it up and eat it without L sussing you, then its not a potato chip but a scrap of the death note paper.
