I could be wrong, but I think the only cake that is guaranteed upside-up is one that you serve still in the pan you baked it in. That is more a choice of manner in which to serve the cake than a function of the sponge itself.
Upside down cake is constructed before baking in a way that is intended to be inverted from the baking orientation to serve.
You mean an upside down cake upside down?
Exactly
Isn’t that a cobbler?
I usually blame the French Tatin sisters, tbh
What about left side up?
It’s the default. Right-side-up-cake is just “cake.” 🤷♂️
Just like how most cakes don’t use a pound of butter so we have to specify between “cake” and “pound cake.”
Wait but pound cake is specifically a pound of all ingredients, no?
Yeah, that’s why. Pound of flour, sugar, eggs, butter, and then some rose water and spices to taste
I don’t remember, to be honest. I just remember the butter. 🤷♂️
Hah and then you add the other ingredients based on what ‘looks right,’ and voila, it ends up being a pound of everything anyway 😅
Right, but that’s less funny.
I think I’ll start pointing it out.
Up side up cake
“I made a cake!”
Me pointing out I made a right side up cake.
I’m wearing my clothes outside out and inside in
Upsidedown apple cake is the best
Hon hon ! I too enjoy tarte tatin hon
