    There is also the recent !woodpushers@quokk.au.

    There are not enough active users on Lemmy/Piefed, there is obviously even less so that are playing chess. I’m not sure creating a new instance will solve that issue (I just joined, though ;)

    it looks like !chess@lemmy.ml is averaging a few posts per month this year and has 2.4k subscribers; not very active but i wouldn’t call it dead.

    moderators are not reachable

    the mods do seem inactive; i and other lemmy.ml admins remove spam if/when it gets reported (which has happened four times this year). if someone (with some posting history) wants to be added as a mod of it just let me know and i’ll add you.

      NGL, the main reason I gave up on keeping up with that sub is most puzzles didn’t get lichess links.

    Marvelous! Though, just to clarify, why the lemmy.ml is frequently considered not preferred? For years I see that the instance is mentioned alongside?: “mistrusted”, “discredited”, “unstable” etc.

    Have you considered another of the most popular as lemmy.world? If you did, why did you choose Feddit, if I may ask?

      On a very high level, it is typically heavily auth-left influenced (so pro-China, pro-Russia, anti “western”). In my opinion, many of its communities are also heavily protected to ensure opposing views are removed by aggressive moderation.

      This led to a few larger instances blocking it (.world I think is the kargst to have done so) blocking it, so their users cannot access *.ml communities.

      **Edit: as many have pointed out, my brain isn’t firing on all cylinders today… Hexbear was the instance it defederated from, not .ml… Sorry for the false info!

        Huh? Lemmy.world has not blocked lemmy.ml, nor have (correct me if i’m wrong?) any other large instances.

        Roger that. Thank you for the details! It matches when I got banned from !privacy@lemmy.ml, too, for the following single message:

        And I never got the actual reason, where I pointed to actual information and viewed the case from accountable attitude.
        I do indeed find some of the moderators of lemmy.dbzer0.com and lemmy.ml utterly inadequate, unfortunately…

        Regardless, there are Communities on the main LemmyWorld feed page from that instance, so they probably didn’t block it, and I appreciate that heartfelt… since I do not get why block whole instances with so diverse Communities, where a single post by so infinitely unique and ineffably magnificent people may be of interest of someone else, where both have no idea nor care about these politics, ideology, agitations etc. but just try discovering and contributing whenever and however they can.

          imo the reason is pretty clear in the modlog you’re linking to. the ban duration was disproportionate though, so, i just unbanned you. (please do not advocate for the use of telegram in !privacy@lemmy.ml though! lmao)

      I simply chose feddit.org, because it is my home instance and I am very happy with how it is being maintained and taken care for (i.e. see https://feddit.org/post/25348485 or https://feddit.org/post/5050805). It is operated by a non-profit organization (https://fediverse.foundation/) and Lemmy.world already seems like the biggest instance, so in the spirit of decentralization I think it makes sense to spread the content out a little.

      Not too sure about lemmy.ml, I know the political views of some of the admin are at least questionable and in general it seems quite political, which I don’t really need for a chess community
