What makes you think those are mutually exclusive concepts? I already do all those things without God. Except I do those because I choose to, not because I was ordered to. Also keep in mind that the commandments came out WAY after the Garden of Eden, anyway.

But let’s also but pretend that God’s rules are all great, either. If the guy who enacted a worldwide genocide and commands fathers to kill their sons is your moral compass, then maybe you should consider that the characters in these stories aren’t 100% “good” or “evil” to begin with.

Satan represents rebellion against arbitrary, self-appointed authority. Satan defied God’s law to bring the gift of knowledge to humanity, hence the name “Light Bringer”, or “Lucifer” in Latin. Satan doesn’t reside in Hell because he is evil, he resides in Hell because he was banished, as punishment from the highest autocrat for trying to set humanity free from eternal servitude. Satan was never the enemy of Man; he was the first angel to treat humanity with dignity instead of as an experiment, or a pet to be dragged on a leash.

If you don’t see yourself in Satan, then I have to wonder what you’re doing with your life.
