Ironically, the needles only need to be about . . . A foot long
If you have long enough straight needles you can double knit two socks side by side (both layers are knit at the same time and separate socks are produced side by side) it is complicated but doable. No, it isnt simple, but it can be fun for those who like complex things and can not be arsed to knit the second sock
Knit them on the same needles in pairs and then they are done at the same time at the cost of only SOME of your sanity

They go in around your lil guy and release the shaft from everything around it and shift it forwards. It gives you more visibility of what exists but does not actually make anything bigger. Idk about adding anything, because i did not look into it further.
